A season earlier, the FCS Demons (0-2) lost all six of their games and postponed the rest due to the untimely death of S Ronnie Caldwell.
Myles Kitt-Denton and J.T. Fayard connected on a 71-yard touchdown pass to give Northwestern State a lead on their opening play from scrimmage. The Demons led 14–7 after Emmanuel Brown returned a 37-yard interception for a touchdown.
