Former Michigan football standout linebacker Obi Ezeh died at 36, his mother announced on social media over the weekend.

The Grand Rapids native was a standout at Grand Rapids Catholic Central. He was a three-year starter, set the school’s career rushing record (3,189 yards), and led the team to an 11-2 record to the Division 4 state title game as a senior in 2005. He later helped lead the rugby team to the state championship.

Michigan football given three-year probation, recruiting penalties by NCAA for football violations

Michigan and five current or former football staff members have reached an agreement with the NCAA regarding recruiting breaches and “coaching activities by noncoaching staff members that occurred within the NCAA football program, and the appropriate penalties for those violations.”

Penalties:

  1. three years of probation for Michigan –
  2. a fine & recruiting restrictions
  3. one-year show-cause orders for the coaches
